The condition that decides your route
Turkey's famous e-visa is available to Indians only if you hold a valid visa or residence permit from the Schengen area, USA, UK or Ireland. Meet that condition and Istanbul is a 15-minute online application away; without it, you take the embassy sticker route — slower, but entirely doable.
Route 1 — the e-visa (with a supporting visa)
Apply on the official portal with your passport details, travel dates and supporting-visa information. The e-visa grants 30 days, single entry, for a fee around USD 43–60 depending on current schedules, and arrives by email — usually within a day. Two rules bite the careless: the supporting visa must be valid on your Turkey entry date (not merely at application), and you should arrive by air on a carrier — the facility is tied to conditions the portal states.
Route 2 — the sticker visa
No qualifying visa? Applications go through the Turkish missions and their contracted visa centres in India. The file resembles a Schengen application:
- Passport valid 6+ months, older passports helpful
- Biometric photos, application form
- Flight and hotel reservations
- Bank statements (last 3–6 months) and ITRs
- Employment or business proof, leave letter
- Travel insurance covering the stay

Which route should you plan around?
If a Schengen or US application is already in your year's plans, sequence it first — it unlocks Turkey's e-visa and simplifies everything.
