President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the change on 30 August 2026 during Prime Minister Modi’s state visit to Tashkent, and said it takes effect immediately. It covers all Indian citizens and applies to tourism and business travel. What was announced The announcement covers three things: a 30-day visa-free entry for Indian passport holders, immediate effect, and no fee. Until now, Indians applied for an Uzbekistan e-visa online before travelling. That step is no longer required for stays within 30 days. Uzbekistan paired the announcement with trade and connectivity figures: bilateral trade crossed $1 billion last year, and there are now 14 weekly direct flights between India and Uzbekistan. Delhi to Tashkent is a flight of about three hours, which makes it one of the shortest international trips available on an Indian passport with no visa step at all. What the official order still needs to confirm The announcement came from the state visit, not yet from a published legal order. Until that order is out, three details are unconfirmed: the minimum passport validity required at entry, whether the 30 days are single-entry or usable across multiple visits, and how days are counted across a calendar year. We will update this post when the order is published. If you are booking travel in the next few weeks, carry a passport with at least six months’ validity and a return ticket. Both are standard asks at Central Asian borders regardless of visa status.
